Best time to visit Areoso Island

Summer, spring or Easter: when Areoso is most worth it, how wind and tides affect trips, and why you should book in advance.

Turquoise water of Areoso Islet in summer

Areoso Island is at its best with good weather and calm seas — but that is exactly when its limited, permit-controlled spots fill up. This guide helps you choose when to go and avoid missing out.

High season: summer and Easter

This is when the water is most inviting and there are more departures, but also when it gets busiest. The Xunta authorization is mandatory at Easter and from 15 May to 30 September, and daily quotas sell out. If you go in July or August, book as early as possible.

Shoulder season: June and September

For many, the best balance: good weather, pleasant water and fewer people than peak August. You still need the authorization, but spots are usually easier to find.

Wind, tides and safety

Weather rules: wind and tides can reschedule or cancel a trip for safety. Booking a guided route takes that worry away, as the operator monitors conditions and decides for you.

  • Mornings tend to have less wind.
  • Always check the forecast the day before.
  • With kids or little experience, calm seas are best.
