Areoso is small, fragile and heavily visited, and environmental officers enforce the rules: in the 2025 season alone 70 infringements were reported, most of them for landing without authorisation. With a valid permit, protecting the islet is easy: respect the marked areas and follow your operator's instructions.

Because it is a fragile natural site under huge demand: the Xunta caps visits at around 150 visitors per day in three shifts, and even so more than 11,000 people visit every high season (11,372 bookings between May and September 2025). Two out of three arrive paddling, by kayak or paddle board.

They are megalithic burial mounds thousands of years old: Areoso preserves several mámoas and a dolmen that erosion has left exposed on the sand. Touching or disturbing the archaeological remains is forbidden, so enjoy them with your eyes only.
